Authority, Manama, 26 December 2012: His Excellency the Interior Minister
Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa condemned on Tuesday
the behavior of several policemen shown recently in videos that have been
circulated on social media. He stated such behavior is unacceptable and goes
directly against the Ministry's policies as well as the police code of conduct.
"It also gravely affects the public's opinion of the integrity of the
police force," he said. He stressed that the actions of a few do not
represent the actions of the institution overall. The Minister has created a
committee, chaired by the Chief of Public Security, to identify policies that
will determine the causes and the solutions to such behavior. "Anyone who
has violated our policies will be held accountable," he stated. HE
stressed that some of the videos that have recently been circulated were shot
several months ago. "If the videos had been brought to the Ministry's
attention earlier, an investigation would have been conducted sooner," he
stated. He then asked that anyone who films such an event should report it
immediately. He said, "We are committed to building a partnership with all
segments of the community and hope to work with all groups within our country
to create civil peace."
