MoFA Summons Iranian Chargé dAffaires Over Persistent Interference in Bahrains Domestic Affairs

Information Affairs Authority, Manama, 15October 2012: The Foreign Ministry summoned today Iranian Chargé d'AffairesMahdi Islami to address his country’s interference in the Kingdom’s internalaffairs through deliberately attributing false information to Bahrainiofficials and promoting it in the media.

The Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary forRegional and GCC Affairs, Hamad Ahmed Al Amer, pointed out that such conductincites sedition and sectarianism in the Bahraini community. Moreover, hedismissed claims by the Iranian mass media that Bahrain had requested Iranianmediation as false and asserted that Bahrain did not request any mediation fromthe Iranian minister with regards to its domestic affairs.

He further noted that Bahraini ForeignMinister HE Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa had firmly ruled out suchinterference at a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran, as well aswith the Iranian Chargé d'Affaires in Manama, after a request had been made bythe Iranian side on September 13, 2012.

Under-Secretary Al Amer underscored the factthat any interference in Bahrain’s domestic affairs through mediation or othermethods, as well as in dealing with its citizens, is unacceptable and would bean encroachment on its sovereignty and independence.

He also reiterated demands made through theIranian diplomat that his country stop interfering in Bahrain’s internalaffairs, particularly through incitement via its mass media; and through tiesand contacts with specific groups in the Bahraini community.

Mr. Al Amer stressed that Iran must adhere tothe rules of international diplomatic work and relations as well as the Charterof the United Nations. These rules, he added, reject and denounce all forms ofinterference in the states' internal affairs directly or indirectly or throughpolitical, religious or media incitement with fraud, lies and fabrications.
