Verdict in Juvenile Case Reached; Will Be Monitored By Social Worker
05 July 2012

Information Affairs Authority, Manama, 05 July 2012: Authorities announced today that 11 year old Ali Hassan will be allowed to return home, although he will be monitored by a social worker to insure his well-being. The Juvenile Courts ordered monitoring for one year, visiting the youth every 6 months. No community service was ordered.

The youth was taken into custody in May 14 for his involvement in blocking roads on 3 separate occasions over the course of the previous afternoon (May 13th). After an initial meeting with Juvenile Authorities in his mother’s presence, he was taken to the Juvenile Care Center where he stayed until June 11th, receiving social services and tutoring for his schoolwork.

Hassan, who had already returned to the family home, was accompanied by his family, lawyers and Human Rights activists at today’s hearing.
