Foreign Media:

The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomes international media and hopes to provide an enjoyable and reliable service for all journalists coming into the country for work purposes through the Information Affairs Authority.

Q1: As a journalist, can I visit Bahrain for media coverage on a regular visa?

If you are visiting Bahrain for any media coverage, you'll have to request a media visa, which is easy to obtain. Not only it is the proper channel to follow, but many of your activities will be facilitated.

Q2: What is the procedure I should follow to interview an official in Bahrain.

We can help you arrange interviews with the private and public sector, government officials, and representative of Bahraini institutions and companies. You are advised to contact the foreign media department at IAA requesting the interview ahead of time. The foreign media team will try their best to arrange the interview with the official you wish to meet.

Q3: What do I need to get a media visa?

In order to obtain a media visa, you'll need to provide the following documents:

  • A completed media visa form in the website media drop menu, Passport copy, recent JPG photograph, and an official Letter of Accreditation from your media organization.
  • Processing and evaluating applications take up to 3 days, and you will be contacted once the procedure is over. Once your documents have been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from us that we are processing your request. If you do not receive this email, feel free to contact us again.

Q4: Does the media visa procedure take too long?

Please allow up to three working days for us to and process your request. Media visas will be ready for collection at the visa desk at Bahrain International Airport upon arrival.

Please note that Media visas are issued for 72 hours prior to your arrival to Bahrain International Airport. If you wish to extend, you will need to put in a request through IAA and fill in another application form found (HERE). For visa renewal, please re-apply by sending in an application form at: foreignmedia@info.gov.bh

We advise that no flight reservations be made until you receive a confirmation that your visa application has been accepted.

Q5: Will I be able to report freely in Bahrain?

As long as you're travelling to Bahrain on a media visa and abiding by the rules and regulations of Kingdom of Bahrain, you'll be able to freely conduct your media activities.
